618 is not peaceful and Tmall JD.com is suspected of choosing one of the two to "take action again"

2017-06-08

The keywords for June this year seem to be "opening up". After Cainiao and SF Express, Tmall and JD.com were suspected to have competed again because of "choose one of two".

Tmall JD.com

On the morning of the 6th, many clothing brands including Gedi, Ordos, lily business fashion, Eveli, Chuyu and other clothing brands posted on Weibo to condemn JD.com, saying that the latter forced the brand into the event venue without the brand's consent to participate in its designated promotional activities. For brands that require the launch of the venue, JD.com forced the backend to lock the merchants, causing the merchants to be unable to perform any operations on their stores. According to Blue Whale TMT, in order to curb JD in the 618 e-commerce war, Tmall has played the "two-choice one" business method on its own powerful category of clothing, requiring relevant brands to withdraw from JD 618's activities, otherwise they will handle the in-store products themselves (taken off the shelves). Faced with Tmall's "choose one of two", JD.com fought back with a killer weapon that exempts KA merchants from commissions and platform usage fees of up to three years. According to screenshots of suspected merchants, Tmall waiter gave three choices for merchants: to announce, post on Weibo, and to go to the venue, otherwise the merchants will be severely punished and even stopped all traffic on Tmall.

Under pressure, many merchants posted on Weibo to "accused" JD.com to lock in the backend. In addition, a reporter from 21st Century Business Herald also noticed that the so-called "Brother Di" screenshot in the relevant articles is named "Brother Di-Elan", which is not the official flagship store Weibo of the Gedi brand. Currently, "Brother-Elan" is in no search status. Tmall has not yet given a positive response. But a Tmall person forwarded a third-party comment, implying that Tmall requires merchants to choose one of two is a joke, "For a confident platform, there is no 'choose one of two' motivation," the comment said. It is worth noting that since 2015, the State Administration for Industry and Commerce has issued the "Interim Provisions on the Management of Centralized Promotion Activities of Online Goods and Services" (hereinafter referred to as the "Interim Provisions") for e-commerce promotions such as "Double 11" and "Double 12".

According to the "Interim Provisions", as the organizer of centralized promotions, third-party trading platforms should record and save the product and service information published on their platform during the promotional activities and their release time. At the same time, the trading platform needs to inspect and monitor the promotional activities of online merchants. If the merchant is found to have any illegal and irregular behavior, it may stop providing third-party trading platform services to them and make public announcements. In addition, under the new regulations, platforms shall not restrict sellers from participating in sub-small activities on another platform, that is, they cannot implement "choose one of two".
