【E-commerce Operation】E-commerce in emerging markets accelerates its rise under the dividends of cross-border e-commerce development

2018-03-27

"The development of traditional foreign trade business is in a bottleneck period, but cross-border e-commerce exports will develop faster and faster." At the 2018 IEBE (Guangzhou) International E-Commerce Expo and New Internet Business Exhibition held in Guangzhou, Huang Zirong, president of the Guangdong Online Business Association, said in an interview with Guangzhou Daily All-Media reporter.

It is understood that under the dividends of the rapid development of cross-border e-commerce, a number of new overseas e-commerce platforms are emerging rapidly, especially in emerging markets. For Chinese Made, this means new opportunities. Platform merchants and big sellers attending the meeting all said that the market dividends are quite high but the threshold is also increasing, which will force Chinese manufacturing to accelerate the "branding" process.

According to statistics, in 2017, the export transaction volume of cross-border e-commerce was 33.65 billion yuan, with a growth rate of 41.3%, and a strong momentum.

It is worth noting that e-commerce in emerging markets is entering a period of rapid development. In June last year, Alibaba invested US$1 billion in Lazada, and its shareholding increased from 51% to 83%. Basically, Lazada can be said to be the Alibaba branch in Southeast Asia. JD.com is actively developing markets such as Russia. Amazon occupies a strong market position in India. Lin Zhuangchao, CEO of Quanheyue, believes that "emerging markets can be said to be a new blue ocean for e-commerce."

On the one hand, Chinese manufacturing is looking for new markets; on the other hand, emerging market e-commerce also needs high-quality Chinese manufacturing products.

But that doesn't mean there is no threshold. Song Xiaojun, vice president of Amazon China and head of Amazon Global Store Opening China Investment Promotion, said that in the new trade era, one of the essential abilities of Chinese companies is brand building and management capabilities. After eBay cleared out a large number of small sellers in recent years, it also focused on supporting brand sellers in 2018. Huang Zirong believes that cross-border e-commerce is also undergoing transformation, and brand sellers will become the mainstream in the future. For Chinese Manufacturing, which is seeking to "go overseas", this will force its "branding" transformation and upgrading.

In the wave of cross-border e-commerce, Guangdong is at the forefront of the country. In Huang Zirong's view, Guangdong Province's cross-border export e-commerce still has great potential, especially in various industrial belts in Guangdong Province. "There is a very strong demand for developing emerging markets."
