Apple lost a year ago in a patent lawsuit with VirnetX. The U.S. Eastern District Court for Texas recently completed a hearing on the case, rejected all Apple's motions and supported VirnetX's motions.
According to data released by VirnetX, the court ruled that Apple should compensate $439.7 million, about $140 million higher than the previously disclosed figure. This includes $302.4 million last year’s jury’s ruling, $41.3 million in additional intentional infringement compensation (the patent licensing fee per device increased to $1.80 from $1.20 last year), and $96 million in interest, costs and attorney fees.
An Apple spokesman said it plans to appeal the final judgment.

This case has lasted for 7 years. VirnetX first filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Apple as early as August 2010.
