Amazon's $13.7 billion acquisition of Whole Foods may be postponed until next year

2017-07-29

The latest news on July 26 said that Democratic lawmakers and government officials in the United States are worried about market monopoly. Amazon previously announced that it would spend $13.7 billion to acquire Whole Foods supermarkets may eventually be postponed. The deal, which was originally scheduled to be completed by the end of this year, is now likely to be postponed until May 2018.

One of the reasons why Amazon 's acquisition of Whole Foods supermarkets constitutes a monopoly is that this move immediately brought Amazon another infrastructure advantage: more than 400 small warehouses, spread across some of the wealthiest communities in the United States.

Amazon has always refused to comment on antitrust issues. But it has also recently begun looking for professional economists to consult concerns about competition regulations. Before November last year, Trump had high-profile criticism of Amazon 's market dominance and also alluded to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos during the presidential campaign to face "anti-trust" problems.

According to documents previously released by Whole Foods, Amazon will apply to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission this week to modify the deadline for the transaction. (Source: Interface)
