In fact, at that time, I didn’t understand what entrepreneurs did, but the feeling I felt was very cool, but my mother didn’t think so, and always refuted: What kind of business are you a girl starting!
The opposition from my family triggered my rebellious mentality in my youth, and the entrepreneurial obsession was deeply imprinted in my mind...
The decoration industry in my hometown is in full swing, and the decoration signs are hanging all over the streets and alleys, which prompted me to choose "interior design" without hesitation when filling out my application. I was secretly happy when I thought I could become the boss of a decoration company after graduation, but before the graduation season came, my desire for entrepreneurship suddenly turned into confusion.
I think of an industry too simply and want to build my own business with one skill. Because decoration is not as easy as I think, I only know how to draw pictures and don’t understand a series of factors such as wiring, materials, workers, and costs. I, who are socially afraid, even have to talk about business in person, which instantly dispelled my idea of starting a business.
Disheartened, I had no choice but to take the 600 yuan I earned from being a tutor and ran to Hangzhou, rented a Faced Farmer's house with a monthly rent of 250 yuan, and found an internship interior design assistant with a monthly salary of 800 yuan, and worked for two years.
But the designer has to sell while drawing pictures, but he has not talked about the next customer in the past two years. Relying on the "allowing" of other sales, I, who was not good at speaking, "durable" for two years.
Some people may ask: Can you survive for so long without performance? Although I dare not communicate with the outside world, I am still active in my mind.
Many design companies in Hangzhou are not responsible for drawing renderings, and they are outsourcing them all, and my renderings are not bad, so I dared to contract the renderings of the entire company, which is why I can survive in the company for so long.
It solved the survival problem, but it was the day and night working at the desk... I drew construction drawings during the day and rushed to renderings at night. It was normal to not close my eyes for a few days, and it was no longer surprising to go to work with dark circles. In this way, it not only consumes a lot of energy, but also has a marginal effect on learning improvement. The biggest bottleneck of your own is social obstacles. If you cannot overcome it, you will not be able to achieve your ideals!
The direction of entrepreneurship has not been decided, not to mention the communication flaws. If I want to become an entrepreneur, I am still far from it.
In the following months, I applied for various sales positions such as real estate agents and financial consultants, which not only trained my eloquence but also saved some money.
In 2010, my younger brother came to Hangzhou. After working in the photography industry for 5 years, he smelled the future of the industry. At this time, Taobao was just emerging. My younger brother believed that the competition for light-dry photography was too high and he had to start a new field.
So I raised 10,000 yuan to help him start a business and stayed to help him manage the company. In just two years, we, who specialize in Taobao store photography, rented more than 3,000 square meters of office space, and the team expanded from the original two to more than 40 people.
Although I helped my brother manage the company, I didn’t start a business by taking the lead, which is somewhat regrettable for me.
Time passed by 2015. I met a clothing factory owner, but while chatting, I opened up my mind.
At that time, I only knew how to do some work related to design and photography, and most of the people around me were engaged in children's clothing. So can I combine the two and specialize in children's photography?
The feasible idea ignited my entrepreneurial passion, so I rented a basement, as if I was back in the internship, taking photos during the day, editing photos at night, and discussing business on weekends. Working for myself is not tired, but I am full of energy. But when I was about to do something big, the entire photography industry was as expected - the competition was under great pressure.
The industry track is full of people, but I started too late and had no business resources, so I couldn't survive if I had any income without any meals. For myself who started my first business, all this came and went quickly. While blaming myself for not having a vision, I stopped the store and left it to my younger brother for taking care of it, and I could only continue to wait for the opportunity.
Sometimes I wonder if I am not suitable for starting a business, why is my journey so bumpy? Unfortunately, no one can give an answer.
Later in July 2016, I served as the chief assistant in a larger beauty e-commerce company in Hangzhou, and I was an e-commerce novice, and my understanding of online sales was blank. Years of work experience tell myself that if I don’t take the initiative to learn, my dreams will stay away from myself.
So I recommended myself to the leader. While working as the general assistant, I also worked part-time as an e-commerce customer service, operation assistant and event operation. I just want to quickly improve myself and make up for the gap in e-commerce knowledge.
Two months later, I mustered up the courage to ask my leader to manage the store. The leader would definitely not let a new person get into the store manager directly, but under my scrupulous and forced me to give me an optional store to send me away. At that time, the monthly turnover of the company's stores in the same category was 1 million. Then I gave the goal in half and headed towards the performance of 500,000 yuan. I remember the leader also said sarcastically: If you can achieve 200,000 yuan, I will burn the incense.
Anyway, this shop has been practiced for me, so it doesn’t matter how it is done. I can also let go of my hands and boldly handle it. So I hired an event operation and an assistant and customer service, and set the first month as the running-in period, and the second sprint was 500,000.
Perhaps due to years of experience in photography companies, I actually achieved 490,000 in the second month. While feeling full of accomplishment, the leader also looked at me with admiration and handed over all the other new stores of the company to me.
Just a few months passed, and my leader decided to go out and start a business, and I also considered following him.
"Voluntarily" start a business
This is not a true entrepreneurial sense, because the profits from the new company must be subsidized to another company led by the leader. Actually, I don’t mind. After all, I was just a worker at this time. Who would I work for?
As a beauty-oriented startup, although the leader’s partners raised 3 million yuan, the money still has to be carefully calculated. It can save as much money as possible in terms of renting, decoration and purchasing. With the old business of interior design, it saves a lot of money in decoration design.
I remember that after purchasing tables and chairs, in order to save transportation and installation costs, I asked the freight driver to pull them downstairs and begged the security guards of the office building to help with the transport. A girl, I, had screwed all the screws of the desk and chairs.
I personally take everything in this company, and I really regard it as my own work. When I was following the leader to start a business, although there were only two of us, I could learn a lot of real knowledge, from cashiers, personnel, administration, and then to project managers, imagining myself as a brick and moving wherever I needed.
Later, the company hired a personnel service, and I started to take on the project full-time, but who knew that the partner suddenly borrowed 2.5 million from the account and never returned it. The remaining funds had already bottomed out. Before the company started to make a profit, it began to owe wages. By the end of the year, the leader had to mortgage the house and pay everyone a salary.
After a few months of stuttering, after the Spring Festival in 2018, the boss mysteriously asked me to go into the office, took out the company's business license, and said that he would transfer the company's legal person to me, so that I could find a way to do something for the company... I do want to start a business, but I didn't expect it to be so sudden.
Now that things have come to this point, I don’t want to miss this opportunity in vain. In the “three no” situation of no funds, projects and teams, the first thing to solve is the issue of paying wages . Our business is all in Xiaohongshu. At this time, the platform mechanism has not been improved. With the idea of giving up, we registered 100 QQs with 10 mobile phone numbers and opened 100 Xiaohongshu accounts through these accounts.
Then, through the beauty and makeup expo, I sent business cards one by one to discuss business, cast a net in the ocean, and finally found a brand that I would like to promote. So I found dozens of student writers to post on Xiaohongshu account. The price was 40 yuan a day at that time. A writer was 10 yuan and could earn 30 yuan by himself, which was really a bit shabby.
Since there was no standard for pricing at that time, all the prices were thought out by myself. When I had a second customer, I raised the price to 200 yuan. Because I want to maintain my customers well and develop them into long-term "meal tickets".
Some customers have accumulated, and the book flow has gradually increased, but what has come is that the platform control mechanism has become increasingly strict . The previous routine has gradually become unfeasible, and the account applied for with an IP will most likely be blocked. I decided to integrate the resources of experts and help brand promotion through experts. I also contacted them one by one as always. After creating some reputation, I established several expert groups. To date, our expert resource library has more than 100,000 people. Of course, this is a story later.
At that time, Xiaohongshu did very little promotion, and the competitive pressure was not very large. We were the first batch of people who carefully studied platform mechanism algorithms and used expert resources to promote brands. Perhaps our efforts have paid off and we have made profits in the third month of operation.
In June 2018, Xiaohongshu launched the MCN organization registration activity, and invited 6 companies across the country, and 4 companies were selected. Our team is honored to be selected as the first batch of MCN organizations.
With the reputation of being promoted by an electric toothbrush brand, it may be that the effect is pretty good. This company decided to invest in us. I didn’t know what to do if I was invested for the first time. After more than a month of negotiations, the investment funds finally came in.
In mid-2019, the Xiaohongshu APP was removed from the shelves for a while, and I clearly remember that it lasted for a full 71 days. Although I could live on investment funds for a while, the situation of only going out but not entering is not a long-term solution. Moreover, I didn’t know how long it would take for Xiaohongshu to be removed from the shelves at that time.
This dilemma left me helpless, so I had no choice but to contact my former leader, but he actually asked me to dissolve the company and go back to help him with work. This is all my efforts and I can't agree to the investment I just got.
Everything depends on myself. After a series of thoughts, I made a bold decision. First, the team is divided into two parts. One of them continues to be responsible for the company's business and maintains long-term contracts, and one friend is responsible for it; the other part is led by me and the remaining people to study the full-case planning plan.
The so-called learning is actually a transaction. I am responsible for attracting investment for the other party, while my team stays in the other party’s company to study, and the other party has to pay wages. About a month later, after understanding the process, I withdrew and wanted to find some full-case marketing business for my company. With the subsequent launch of Xiaohongshu, all the team members returned to prepare for a plan to resume work.
At this point, we have become an advertising company that has both marketing planning capabilities and MCN resources.
A period of time after Xiaohongshu was put on the shelves, the epidemic followed one after another. However, this is indeed a double-edged sword. Before this, many customers asked me to spend a lot of time explaining the benefits of online marketing. Now every customer knows the advantages of online, and instead ushers in our peak period.
Thanks to this, we have discussed many major customers in the post-epidemic period and accumulated many successful cases.
Hangzhou is an incubator for e-commerce companies. Many e-commerce companies may just make quick money and go wherever they are profitable. Later, I joined the Laogao E-commerce Club and found that Laogao is following the steps, not impetuous and doing things with a normal mind, in line with the development of our company, and honest development allows every customer to become a long-term partner.
Until now, there is no business staff in our company because we do things with a normal mind. The source of business is that old customers introduce new customers, and new customers become long-term customers.
In fact, it’s not that I don’t want to make more money, because I know that I have to eat at a glance. When word of mouth, influence and team really become the core competitiveness of the company, the opportunity to expand the flow will become increasingly mature. From the second half of 2021 to next year, I have planned to form a business team and add an operation team to cooperate with the development of the company and focus on the policy of expanding the flow and optimizing the team.
For me, all this is due to my cautiousness and knowing that my overall strength is not strong, but I have achieved careful research and the unyielding benefits of my teammates. When I asked them to go out to study, the other party paid a lot higher than mine, but in the end I didn't return to our team. Similarly, we cannot do without Hangzhou, an e-commerce incubator, and the golden age of e-commerce startups.
